New Path without Fears

During this class I was dare to do more as the slogan of the college is presented. My main weakness at the beginning of the class was my intimidation from going back to write in a higher level which describes me as a worry person to give everything possible to learn, succeed, and realized that I could turn my own weaknesses into strengths. One thing that I learned in the class it’s to forget about my weakness and move forward by seeing my errors.  Sometimes when I found the right people to help me out I felt always better and more enthusiastic than working solo. Because to be honest, the worry I have had at the beginning of the class turns in a way to be better person every second of my existence during this class by interacting with my classmates and the people in the English lab. Sometimes it takes time to attack your personal limitations but the trick that I applied during this class it was by just thinking positive and gives always a huge smile on every task to be developed when I had the feeling that it will be harder than the previous one.

 I learn in this class to keep moving forward by taking a determination to generate better personal results and share with others by using Blogger. I do posses a quality of positive thinking that helps me most of my time to forget my problems to show my best. This wonderful activity of using blogger helped me not only to succeed in my writing skills, it also help me to do a deep research about the power in marketing of using the type of tools into a business. For example, I request permission to the board in Colombia to incorporate a blog into our own business web-side for three mean reasons. First, network and build relationships in every class. Secondly, convert casual visitors to loyal readers by looking subscribers or clients as we did in the class by looking and evaluating some other blogs from the class Eng 99. Finally, it helps to build and maintain a community. In my point of view this activity helped me to know more about my classmates out of the classroom and gives respect to the class as the way that it must be. Moreover, it helps to increase my own business as I will never imagine by taking an English class at LaGuardia Community College.

I will attend to my Eng102 class in January. One thing I know is that I will be introduced to a variety of writing strategies used in composing interpretive and analytical essays but I am so sure with the improvements from my Eng 101 I will be ready for this challenge once we finished. The simple reason is that this class has helped me so much to extend and go back to find my abilities to write correct, well-organized essays by using various strategies including my own Colombian spice. Thank you doctor Luke Vasileiou.

Blog 8

The most important thematic for me during the class it was the movie “Gattaca” and the text “The Man of the Moon” by George J. Annas. The movie helped me to believe in my personal goals as a better person. Also, the message that the text provides about perfect humans give me more confidence to help others whenever they request my help. Indeed, I love the most in the movie it was when Vincent knowing that it was inactive, he had the chance to succeed by himself, even when his family suggested of desisting about his dream to travel in the space.

I do believe that this movie assumes many identities with the expectations that we do not know that they exist. It helps to understand that many perspectives in life could be made. Moreover, they are possible in many way with some limits that unknown, they just need to be discover.  

Reflection on blogging

In my personal experience, I do believe that using blogger in my class Eng101 at LaGuardia Community College is helping me to improve my writing skills in many aspects. The first advantage is the benefit to develop new strategies and improve better techniques by taking an example from the best writers in the class. Secondly, is that people is challenge to write positive post in a way that the public could give you a better criteria about what you are missing as a writer.      

Students sometimes do not support each other in many times. Using blogger permits many students to compare and improve their writing skills without being embarrass to ask for help. In many cases when a student needs help 25% at the time fells that the other student is going to denied to help you out. For Example, my friend Nicky is an excellent writer at the New York University.  What I admired in Nicky is that he loves to help students to develop new strategies according peoples personality but none of his English classes could get the change to share his talent using blogger like my English class. My friend said that “I was very lucky to have this opportunity in a way that I could change many people minds”, which I do totally agree with my friend because I enjoy every assignment that we blog into the class.

Positive thinking brings a powerful force in our lives. Writing a blog is very challenge for some people at the time to make a positive post for the simple reason that every post goes public. Sometimes it can make it easier for many people to write a simple post without making a good combination. For example I do believe that positive post can transform people minds and be more popular in this social network. Moreover, I think any kind of positive post are more worth to read it because increase personal recognition in different set of skills. Both aspects of blogging are wonderful especially the activity that public could make comments to help me out or include information that you probably forgot by mistake. Blogging gives you the excellent benefit of establishing yourself as an expert in your chosen area of work where I discovered that I would love to put it in my own business as soon as possible in a way that my clients start to know about my passions, likes, hobbies, sports and dislikes.

Everyone has many different ways to write, but believe me when I said that “blogging could connect potential readers to motivate me to write more and more in my Eng 101 class”, with the benefit to create new career opportunities just for me and help others in the future to believe on this social network from my own experiences. 

Blog 6: Free will and determinism

People love to think that whatever happens in our lives is for a reason.  The act of seeing determinism is by putting some illusion where all the events are ultimately determined by causes external to the will. According to the article “Free Will and Determinism in the World of Minority Report” having free will is thought to require two things. The first support is the alternative position, where people think that “God is all knowing. If God is all knowing then he must know everything that is going to happened in the future” (104). This means there are no alternative possibilities, and must of the events are as God has foreseen them. The Second support is self-control. This is a person who controls every action so any alternative possibilities realized are up to him. In the same way, “Many scientist and philosophers have thought that the laws of nature are deterministic. These laws include Newton’s laws of motion, the law of gravity, the laws governing the electric and magnetic fields, and so on” (105). This makes some reference at some point that these laws prescribe a unique future evolution into our lives.   

In many cultures people believes the future could be predicted with a simple prophecy. A clear case is the play “Oedipus the King” by Plato. We could see in this event that Oedipus was very determined to find out about the future of Thebes. But his own future was already marked by the Gods by predicting that he will kill his own father and end up married to his own mother. Hard determinists could be present in the argument that “Jocasta, finally realizing that he was her son, begged him to stop his search for Laius' murderer” (895). In fact, some truth could be very painful by giving the importance of some consequence in many different ways.

Free will is treated very skeptically in the movie “Minority Report” because is governed by a state of Determinism. Determinism is the philosophical doctrine that most of the events and situations during this movie  are made with the decision that the criminals are prosecuted with a perfect system due to the process  that they are predetermined  to commit a crime. In addition, it seemed that the criminals have no choice in the matter, for the fact that everything is predetermined. This system stops many crimes in Washington D.C and the citizens are happy that it works 99% of the time with the help of the U.S Goverment. However, John Anderton was predicted to commit a crime but he tries to establish that he has free will and determinism to easily prevent committing the crime. Both stories are similar in the point of view that reflects truth as a variety of meanings, such as the state of being in accord with fact or reality.

I do believe that many of our actions are free or without intention but they must occur soon or later in our lives because in many situations we express the notion that every event is caused in accordance with causal laws. Following this further, we do something because we want to have a unique future better than others.

Examination mid-term

Most of the people are prisoners of the reality of the reality for the simple reason that we find any evidence to know the point of some truth. Moreover, during this class we saw and develop two processes of giving up illusion and embracing truth. First at all Plato, “the Allegory of the cave” and second “The Matrix” a movie that it was film by 1999 where shows the reality as a simple dystopia. Based on my evidence I have found more accurate the movie “The Matrix”.

The Allegory of the cave can be found in the book VII of Plato’s best known work, The Republic, a dialogue on the nature of justice. One of the most important historical examples about this wonderful work of Plato is when Benjamin Jowett took the following selection for translation and says that “the best way to understand Plato’s Allegory of the cave will be when the world of philosophical terms are in your mind to truly put it in your own language”. Plato’s described what is necessary for us to achieve this reflective understanding. But even without it, it remains true that our own ability is to think and speak depend of the form, because the terms of the language we use get their meaning by calling or naming the things as we perceive day by day.

Plato’s point is that the prisoners would be mistaken for the reason that they would be mistaken for the reason that they would be taking the terms in their own language to refer to the shadows that pass before their eyes. Such prisoners would mistake appearance for reality, because if they see on the walls a shadow, right away they will put in their minds that it totally real and they would know anything of the real causes of the shadows. This is important fact send me back to my philosophy class in high school, when the professor explained about the idea that knowledge cannot be transfer from teacher to the student unless we do not agree the proper way to understand the intelligence of all our sources to learn. In many ways, I do understand this simple fact by seeing this dialogue in other language and to understand that reality is only one and we need to accept it no matter what into our own society.       

On the other hand, I see more accurate the movie the Matrix for my own experiences and I will explain you why. A film in 1999, but with the idea to take Will Smith as the main actor to represent so much better the idea about the chaos of the post-nuclear apocalyptic landscape where humans are slaves could not be well develop because the context by him it was that he was not really for this paper or roll in the movie. Another perpetual experience of famous actor drop the paper Nicolas Cage. In life we would be mistaken by not accepting our own talent and in many cases I have had passed by situations like this, for example by being a CMO of the well know Colombian companies at my short age for the idea to finish my degree in another foreign country, other language, new people and more new personal experiences withput any economy hel or support from my family. This difficult decision gave me the support to calm down and worries more for myself by accepting my talent and my own destined way for business.

The movie develops a structure of giving up illusion and embracing truth by taking two pills the blue or the red when only one will show it, but only Neo will discover the visible world of reality. Furthermore, Neo agree to understand his own world and discover his own path to find out the truth. It is exactly what happened to me. One was to stay in Colombia living the wonderful life where I had everything that I wanted or second to discover new natural ways to discover the truth of my intellectual world. I developed steps to find out the most rationally future for my own to grow up as an individual without depending from others but keeping my kidness and pure hearth to help anyone around me. It was really hard to find the truth but felling in a way that I could make anything possible in my life. Sometimes I felt that I live in a world of truth but in a way to go back as soon as possible to my own reality as Cyfer in the movie.

Reality and illusions are in many ways of our lives but everything is up  to us how we live or how we see the truth.

Understanding genetically engineered

Somehow genetically engineered opportunities are coming into our world that represents some control into our “perfect society”. Where science is just a simple systematic enterprise in our lives, but most of the time we do not realize the mean concept into our lives. Where the solution is that we need to create a simple understanding of how this process could be capable of all our actions.

One general idea in our society is to be free in aspects like violence and with the best education possible. For example, genetic engineering and biological weapons are sufficiently dangerous and lethal in the way that genetic engineering is not necessary because these biological weapons could be used for any human without even any systematic knowledge on microbiology. Admittedly, George J. Annas’s idea is that humans must discover their own rights and dignity depending the nature to determinate the major events in our lives. Unquestionably, we have no clue at all of how humans are going to react in thousands years for now, but it is time to take a step to simply realized how it would be.

A great view on the text “The Man of the Moon” is how immortality could be defined and how we could easily reflect our lives in the future. People as today need to explore themselves to generate new projections to control these actions. Pursuing this further, “We now know that the Russians were never serious challengers in the moon race and that the prospects of the United States following the moon landing with a serious effort… ” (Pag 231); but many people think that everything was a com plot from NASA and the US Government. For instance, a film was made in2001 called A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Moon by just examining the evidence of a hoax where the main argument of this documentary is how the Apollo crew faked the distance from the Earth. Another moment is when the pilot from Apollo XL “Mike Collins” said "please do not ask me questions so that I won’t lie".

In conclusion, technological developments have grave implications for peace and security for many people, but it’s up to us how we are going to transform our resources with totally responsibility as humans’ beings to be aware that we have the control in our hands to be the masters of our own destiny.

"Oedipus the King" vs "The Matrix"

It is clear to define that ignorance could be anywhere at any time. By comparing the two main projects in the class such as “The Matrix” and “Oedipus the King” we could say that many concepts are into it like ignorance, knowledge and happiness. But what does it between them different from each other? However, we could see two main characters in every text Neo in “The Matrix” and Oedipus “Oedipus the King” both with no knowledge at all before knowing the truth they want to find out.

Two lands to discover knowledge in both texts. One is Thebes, the city in which all events take place and is deteriorating with infertile soil and as a result Oedipus “the king” wants to find the truth about what is wrong and has sent his brother in law to Tiresias “the oracle” to ask him for an advise.

The Allegory of The Cave vs The Matrix

       I do believe that "The Allegory of The Cave", it is more accurate at the time to give up an illusion. Sometimes, people live in a world full of dark or unclear but in the case of Socrates by describing the scenario inside of the cave in which what people think that is real tends to be a simply illusion. Moreover, when the prisoner stands up to be released from the cave and see with his own eyes upon the sun discovers a new world that he could not accept right away just by the fact that he used to live into a world full of shadows.

                From my own personal experience, when I was just a kid and when dad and mom were giving everything that I requested I used to think that my world had to be always like that without worries or problems because I will account with them at every single moment in my economy situations. On the other hand, when the years were passing by and I was at one step to be attended into a College I did realized that live was another journey, a journey that it must be taken by me without depending from my parents.

                I considered the idea of my mom to come to The United States of America to study English as a second language and have a fresh air after high school but, was I just giving up the idea to stay into my own cave?.. as the prisoner in the prisoner in the story.  Probably, at that time my answer would be NO because I had in mind to come for study, visit my family, some vacations, meet up with some people, etc. Today, I could say that I am still living and missing my cave with the simple reason that I do know where is my first home, I recognize my fellow prisoner by just listen their voices and the shadows from the one who love me.

                Most of the things that I have seen in my dreams have come true. Where I had to acclimate in a world where it’s only me and giving a lot importance to the time which it is really important at the time to completed as many goals as possible. I am very easy to adapt on any position as it is requested by just being me with the gift of make a lot people happy with my actions and respect. I would see more and more every day of my life because the surface that I am right now it is to enjoy no matter what, and to learn as much as possible to be a better person.

                Therefore, there are many illusions into our lives but all depends of how you develop the illusion that you would live but I could tell you so far that mine has been full of justice and many things that I did not understood before right now have an answer with simple words “truth” and “intelligence”.
